Fairfax Christian Church Has 20/20 Vision!
As a church in transformation, we are on a multi-year journey to becoming a viable and sustaining congregation. Since our rebirth in 2003, when Rev. Swett was called as Revitalization Pastor, we have been moving in the direction of creating an authentic community rooted in deep Christian spirituality and with a passion for serving the needs of those around us. We are succeeding in creating that community, as we have more than doubled our membership over the past 5 years. We are also on the road to becoming financially sustaining, as well, and to that end, we face several challenges.
In the end of 2008 and first few months of 2009, we were averaging a monthly shortfall of $2,000. This is in spite of the fact that, since the beginning of 2009, we have been operating on a budget that covers only mortgage, utilities, salaries and minimal expenses.
While we have several endowment funds and a terrific bank and loan officer who are committed to helping us in our mission, we have no cash reserves for unexpected expenses. Two furnace motors had to be replaced during the first quarter, costing $1,800. Roof repairs also need to be completed soon. Due to our monthly shortfall, we have had to borrow money donated for projects such as roof repair in order to stay afloat.
You can help us on the financial part of our journey by donating to our 20/20 Vision campaign. We are seeking to increase our monthly giving by $2000 to close the gap between our expenses and our regular giving, and to establish a $20,000 emergency fund to give us cash reserves for unexpected building costs and to give us a buffer for months when when our general fund giving is insufficient to meet that month's expenses.
